If you are considering a camping holiday this year then you will have to purchase a camping tent. It's not as easy as you think, buying a good camping tent. There are several choices that you will have to make when you are considering which camping tent is right for you. There's nothing like getting to grips with the outdoors, especially if you have a young family. When you take children camping, it's like on an adventure, and what better way to take an adventure than with their parents. With money being a little bit tight at the moment, a lot more people are searching for alternative holidays. So, you've decided you want to go camping, now you must decide what type of camping tent you will buy.

For some people, a camping tent means nothing more than a plastic sheet strung between two trees. For other campers there is no such thing as a camping tent, they would rather sleep in the wild with just a sleeping bag or a blanket.

What you need to be looking for in choosing your camping tent

I guess you already know how many people are going with you, what kind of camping you will be doing, and whether there will be any hiking involved in your camping trip. In case you don't let me point out a few of the alternatives. Camping tents come in all shapes and sizes. They come from small one-man tents in which one man would barely fit to full sized family tents where I am sure the occupancy limits can be as big as your wallet can manage. Tents are made to be either very lightweight for backpacking or they are built strong and sturdy to be taken out on the back of your car and set up right there and then.

Camping tents... strength and size

So we've already gone through the size of the tent. If you're going on a family holiday you should always get a tent that is one or two sizes too big. This way you will have a bit more room to maneuver. The next consideration should be the strength of the tent. You are outside after all, and no matter where you intend to holiday the weather can change so you need to be able to survive in all weather's. Make sure that there is double stitching in the seams. Also make sure that all the poles are very sturdy.

The shape of camping tents

Tents for camping come in all shapes and sizes. The most popular tents are either the A-frame construction which is generally for the smaller size, having two sides forming into a peak. It's not a very good tent for families. For the family the best tent is going to be the dome tent. They are more secure allow more floor space and headspace. These family camping tents are also usually equipped with separate bedrooms or kitchen areas. You can also buy a separate camping equipment tents for storing your accessories in.
